the enzyme is highly efficient and highly specific for 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-gluconate 6-phosphate. A mechanism is proposed that requires a second catalytic base located on the D-face of the substrate-pyridoxal-5'-phosphate complex. Deprotonation is followed by elimination of water to give an aminoacrylate intermediate, which tautomerizes and undergoes hydrolysis to give the product, 2-dehydro-3-deoxygluconate-6-phosphate |
