the enzyme is involved in the non-phosphorylative version of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway, overview. In vitro kinetic analyses of glucose dehydrogenase, gluconate dehydratase, and KDG-aldolase from Sulfolobus solfataricus show, that these enzymes are also capable of catalyzing the catabolism of galactose, the C4 epimer of glucose, to pyruvate and glyceraldehyde. Gluconate dehydratase is active only with C6 metabolites, thus it is not involved in the C5-specific branch of the non-phosphorylative version of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway |
