In the second step of the pathway, PEDH catalyzes the stereospecific conversion of (S)-1-phenylethanol to acetophenone and is also capable to catalyze the industrially important reverse reaction, namely, NADH-dependent enantioselective reduction of acetophenone to (S)-1-phenylethanol
