Protein Variants

EC Number Protein Variants Comment Organism
1.14.13.81 additional information yellow and spotted leaf 1 (ysl1) mutant in rice exhibiting a yellow-green leaf phenotype throughout the whole developmental stage and a spotted leaf phenotype at seedling and tillering stages. Genetic analysis indicates that a single recessive gene is responsible for the phenotype of ysl1 mutant. Map-based cloning shows that the mutation site is located at the region of 105.4-kb between RM572 and L3 on the short arm of chromosome 1. Sequence analysis reveals that a point mutation (C-to-T) happens in the coding region of candidate gene YSL1 (LOC_Os01g17170) which causes an amino acid change in MPEC. Mutant phenotype analysis. Growing under natural conditions, ysl1 mutant exhibits a yellow-green leaf in the whole developmental stage and slow growth comparing with its wild-type. Besides, the spots appear in the leaves of the mutant at seedling and tillering stages, are reduced at heading stage, and disappear at mature stage. Most of the main agronomic traits significantly decrease in the mutant. For example, plant height, number of productive panicles per plant, number of spikelets per panicle, seed setting rate, and 1000 grain weight decrease by 16.8%, 20.7%, 17.8%, 7.3%, and 10.6%, respectively, while the days to heading significantly increase by 12.1% Oryza sativa Japonica Group

General Information

EC Number General Information Comment Organism
1.14.13.81 malfunction the yellow and spotted leaf 1 (ysl1) mutant in rice exhibits a yellow-green leaf phenotype throughout the whole developmental stage and a spotted leaf phenotype at seedling and tillering stages. The phenotype of ysl1 is caused by a single nucleotide substitution of Mg-protoporphyrin IX monomethyl ester cyclase YSL1 which is allelic to YGL8, OsCRD1, and YL-1 Oryza sativa Japonica Group
