1.2.1.44 malfunction in the ccr1 mutant, CCR1 gene expression is reduced to 31% of the residual wild type level leading to a decrease in lignin content and significant changes in lignin structure. 4-hydroxyphenyl units are strongly decreased and the syringyl/guaiacyl ratio is slightly increased.
