P21L mutation identified in a strain with early leaf sensescence, mutation causes the expression of the gene at the transcriptional level to decline by 40% in fully expanded leaves. Leaf nicotinate and nicotinamide contents are elevated, while NAD levels are reduced. Leaf tissue of P21L exhibits significant DNA fragmentation and H2O2 accumulation, along with up-regulation of genes associated with senescence.
