The knockdown activity of 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride is associated with in vivo inhibition of AChE, at KD99 dosage, it shows more than 90% inhibition of AChE activity in insects. 2,3-Dimethylmaleic anhydride elicits toxicity in Periplaneta americana primarily by AChE inhibition along with oxidative stress. The compound interacts with 9 amino acids forming hydrogen bonds with Cys198 and Glu199.
