Activating Compound

Activating Compound Comment Organism Structure
D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate activates GlgC by twofold, but has no effect on GlgC/GlgD complex. In the presence of D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate GlgC becomes sensitive to inhibitors phosphoenolpyruvate and inorganic salts Streptococcus mutans

Inhibitors

Inhibitors Comment Organism Structure
ammonium sulfate inhibits both subunit GlgC and GlgC/GlgD complex Streptococcus mutans
KCl inhibits GlgC/GlgD complex, no effect on subunit GlgC alone Streptococcus mutans
NaCl inhibits GlgC/GlgD complex, no effect on subunit GlgC alone Streptococcus mutans
phosphate inhibits both subunit GlgC and GlgC/GlgD complex Streptococcus mutans
phosphoenolpyruvate inhibitory to GlgC/GlgD complex, inhibitory to subunit GlgC only in presence of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate Streptococcus mutans

General Information

General Information Comment Organism
physiological function when expressed individually, subunit GlgC has ADP-Glc diphosphorylase activity, whereas subunit GlgD is inactive. The coexpressed GlgC/GlgD protein is one order of magnitude more active than subunit GlgC alone. Fructose-1,6-bis-phosphate activates GlgC by twofold, but has no effect on GlgC/GlgD. Phosphoenolpyruvate and inorganic salts inhibit GlgC/GlgD without affecting GlgC. In the presence of fructose-1,6-bis-phosphate GlgC acquires a GlgC/GlgD-like behaviour, becoming sensitive to the stated inhibitors Streptococcus mutans
