physiological function outer-membrane lipoprotein RcsF interacts with the periplasmic domain of the innermembrane-localized histidine kinase RcsC (RcsCperi). RcsCperi, when secreted to the periplasm by fusion to maltose-binding protein, titrates RcsF's activating effect. Deletions in the periplasmic domain of RcsC abolish the activation effect of RcsF Escherichia coli
