additional information Acanthamoeba castellanii the main transition in fatty acid metabolism of Acanthamoeba castellanii during batch growth appears to be primarily related to a rapid decline in DELTA12-desaturase activity after 24 h. The resultant large growth-dependent changes in the degree of fatty acid unsaturation would be expected to affect the physical state and/or fluidity of membranes, and may be related to many of the distinctive physiological and biochemical characteristics displayed by Acanthamoeba castellanii in different stages of batch growth ?
