The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Geobacter metallireducens, participates in an anaerobic degradation pathway for cyclohexane-1-carboxylate. In vitro, the enzyme can use butanoyl-coA as a CoA donor with greater efficiency than succinyl-CoA.
