The enzyme, reported from bacteria and fungi, catalyses the oxidative demethylation of sarcosine. It contains a FAD cofactor bound to an L-cysteine residue. cf. EC 1.5.3.24, sarcosine oxidase (5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate-forming).
