IUBMB Comments

The enzyme, found in plants, catalyses multiple reactions during plant sterol biosynthesis. Unlike the fungal/animal enzyme EC 1.1.1.170, 3β-hydroxysteroid-4α-carboxylate 3-dehydrogenase (decarboxylating), the plant enzyme is specific for NAD+.

The enzyme appears in viruses and cellular organisms

Synonyms
3betahsd/d, 4alpha-carboxysterol-c3-dehydrogenase/c4-decarboxylase, 4alpha-cd, 3betahsd/d2, 3beta-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase/c4-decarboxylase, more
